Preserving Heritage in the Medina of Fès

What we learned coordinating conservation specialists and artisans on a historic renovation in Fès.

Heritage renovation asks a different question than new construction: not "what can we build?" but "what must be preserved, and how?"

On this project in the medina of Fès, that meant bringing conservation specialists, local artisans and engineers together to stabilise and restore the original structure, while discreetly introducing the infrastructure a modern use requires.

The result preserves a piece of the city's architectural heritage while ensuring it remains a living, functioning space — a balance that only holds when every discipline involved is working from the same plan.
